Our vision is to change the way people learn languages by making it a practical and fun experience. That's why we're all about bringing language learning to life by helping you to practice speaking with fluent speakers! And so, we invented a custom algorithm, designed to match you into small groups, balanced with a mixture of fluent speakers, so that you can practice your target language and in return you give your fluent language.
Once you're assigned a group, you'll notice on each table there's a flip card, on one side your target language, the other your fluent language. The idea is that every 5 mins, we ring a bell and you flip the card, flipping between speaking your fluent language and target language. Meaning, for 5 mins you're "the teacher" and for 5 mins you're "the student". This give and take structure is what we're all about; creating a balanced and collaborative learning experience, where we can practice speaking our target language with fluent speakers.
Have you ever heard of a musician who learnt the guitar by reading books? Or maybe a professional footballer who made it from watching TikToks of Ronaldo scoring goals? Unlikely you have, right? And the same goes for learning languages; to reach fluency we need to put it into practice and start speaking! (preferably with fluent speakers).
This is something one of our founders experienced when teaching English. Often what he taught in the class would be quickly forgotten by his students. This frustration brought him to set up weekly language exchanges, giving his students the chance to practice speaking their target language with native speakers. This also allowed other language learners to learn from his students, creating a more fun and immersive language learning experience for all! That was back in 2015, later learning to the creation of Flip Lingoes, now with the inspiration to share our concept to cities around the world!
